June 30, 2010
Dear Virginia Families,
Will you please participate?
In 2010, the IRSF Board, Staff and dedicated team of volunteers have committed to raise a RECORD BREAKING amount of funding for research, programs, and services. On behalf of the Board and Staff of IRSF, we would like to take a moment to ask each and every one of you to become a part of this year’s Strollathon fundraising program. We understand that many of you are not able to attend one of the major Strollathons or fundraising events in your state. Because of this reality, the IRSF staff has rededicated itself to providing every family the opportunity to still support the events in your state and participate in the 2010 Research to Reality fundraising campaign.
Why participate?
Fundraising events, such as Strollathons, are so important to everyone affiliated with IRSF. The funds raised are crucial to our research efforts, but these events also provide a chance for Rett families to bond, support one another, and advance IRSF‘s important mission of finding a cure. Strollathons in particular provide a unique opportunity for Rett families to spread community awareness and become a local voice for all of the silent angels worldwide. Whether this is your first opportunity to support a Strollathon or your sixth, we promise you that it will be an amazing, memorable and heart-warming experience. Each of you has a support system you rely heavily upon. The Roanoke, VA Strollathon is a chance for your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers to show how much they care for your silent angel. The Staff at IRSF has made it easy for everyone to get involved, but we need your help to involve your local community.
Here is what you need to do!
If you plan to attend the 6th Annual Roanoke Strollathon, we ask that you please consider asking a few friends, family members, and co-workers to become “team captains” for your Rett angel. Each of these captains will form a team, who will walk in honor of your Rett Angel. A team may be small or large—there is no minimum or limit. To make things even easier this year, team captains will be able to create an online team fundraising page that allows donors to donate online, which most people seem to prefer these days. These pages can be tailored to your family and provide the opportunity to share your Rett Angel’s personal story.
What do I do if I want to participate but cannot attend?
For those families not able to attend the Roanoke Strollathon, we ask that you consider participating virtually or by creating a smaller event, which IRSF calls a “wrap around event.” Wrap around events are crucial in helping to increase revenue for the Strollathon. IRSF can provide you with a list of wrap around event ideas that will be easy, fun and lucrative!
The Roanoke Strollathon is for everyone fighting Rett syndrome. We can fight this TOGETHER; TOGETHER WE ARE BETTER, but we need your help to expand the influence and awareness of these very important events.
It is up to you to decide how you wish to participate. Think about what best fits your life right now. We hope this will be the year you will become involved—or take part again! We have won many battles up to this point, but there is still one very important one we must conquer. Won’t you join the fight?
Your help is our hope.
Thank you,
Jenni Grammer, Special Events Program Manager
Jennifer Endres, Family Resource Manager
