Laila Schmeltzer was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome on Febuary 14,2008. The next Month in March she became unable to eat and drink anymore by mouth.So March 28,2008 she went through surgery for G-tube placement and Nissen Funduplication for chronic acid relflux.Laila has been tube fed ever since. In Febuary of 2009 Laila went through surgery for her second time to have her tonsils and adnoids removed due to obstructive apnea that was found through a sleep study. This year has been the start of her seizures. This past week alone she had seven seizures. In all she has had six aspiration pneumonia cases. It has been very hard as parents to watch her go through all she has and does. However, each day she wakes up and her sisters too, is a blessing from God, at least she's here. My toast to her is, Laila you are a very strong fighter, we beleive in you! We love you!
